Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending corner approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
