Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their unbeaten run on the road in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had levelled the tally five minutes after the defender's first goal, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a handful of chances, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising the match official to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that the winger and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's side into third place in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and sit half a dozen points clear of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils duties at both ends of the field

After a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a mere two shots on goal, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an free the defender to head home.

And the captain - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's unavailability - notched his second in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was equally impressive in defence, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking striker's instinct

The club's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have faded slightly and fans headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The break in the team's winning streak at home won't be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted only a single goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to add to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having room and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

Barry, as well, failed to influence the game after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped dangerous balls into the Spurs box.

Everton: The team travel to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on Monday, 3 November at 20:00 GMT.

Spurs: The London club travel to St James' Park on late October for their next round Carabao Cup tie against the Magpies.
